Antonio Conte breaks silence on Man Utd job links amid pressure on Michael Carrick

According to a report by The Sun on Friday, October 23, 2026, Antonio Conte has addressed rumours connecting him with the Manchester United managerial position, stating that he intends to carefully assess his options before making a decision about his future in football management.

The Italian coach has reportedly emerged as a possible candidate to replace Michael Carrick, whose position at Old Trafford has become increasingly uncertain following a disappointing sequence of results. Manchester United's struggles have raised questions about Carrick's ability to turn the team's fortunes around and restore consistency.

United's 4-1 Champions League defeat to Como extended their winless run to seven matches, increasing pressure on the club's leadership to consider possible changes. The poor results have fuelled speculation that the management could explore alternative candidates if performances fail to improve.

However, Conte, who departed Napoli in June after a successful period with the Italian club, has made it clear that he has not entered advanced negotiations with any team. The 57-year-old explained that he would not rush into another managerial appointment without carefully examining the circumstances surrounding any potential opportunity.

"My name has been linked with numerous clubs, but there are currently no negotiations at an advanced stage," Conte said.

"It will be a carefully considered decision, one I will make when I believe the conditions are right."

The former Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur manager also dismissed reports claiming that he had already presented financial demands or requested complete authority over transfer decisions as conditions for accepting a new position. He maintained that discussions about contractual arrangements would only become relevant if a genuine opportunity emerged.

Conte's achievements in English football could strengthen his appeal to Manchester United. He guided Chelsea to the Premier League title during the 2016-17 season before winning the FA Cup the following campaign. His record also includes leading Napoli to the 2024-25 Serie A championship and the Italian Super Cup.

Despite his impressive achievements, Conte's demanding approach and previous disagreements with Tottenham's players and board could influence United's assessment of his suitability for the role.

Meanwhile, Carrick is expected to lead Manchester United against Bournemouth in Sunday's Premier League fixture despite mounting criticism. Subsequent matches against Chelsea, Roma and Aston Villa could prove crucial in determining whether he retains his position.

For now, Conte has not confirmed any agreement with Manchester United and remains focused on waiting for an opportunity that meets his expectations before returning to management.
