I’m One of the World’s Best Strikers – S/Eagles Star Boldly Said After Helping Club to First UCL Win

According to a post shared by Le Marca Sports on its official X account on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has expressed confidence in his ability, describing himself as one of the best strikers in the world after helping Galatasaray defeat Lille 4-2 in the UEFA Champions League.

The Nigerian forward scored Galatasaray’s fourth goal as the Turkish champions came from behind to secure their first victory of the 2026/27 Champions League campaign. The match was played at the Stade Pierre-Mauroy in France, where Osimhen faced his former club.

Osimhen previously played for Lille during the 2019/20 season before moving on to other clubs in his professional career. His return to face the French side provided an opportunity to demonstrate his quality, and he delivered by scoring in the 61st minute to give Galatasaray a two-goal advantage.

Despite the importance of the goal, Osimhen chose not to celebrate, showing respect for the club where he had previously played. His contribution helped Galatasaray recover from a difficult first half and secure a much-needed win in the European competition.

Speaking after the match, the 27-year-old dismissed suggestions that he was feeling pressure. He explained that football does not always go according to plan, either for an individual player or for the team, but that such situations should not be mistaken for a lack of confidence.

“I’m not tense. This applies not only to me but to many players as well. I’m trying to do the very best I can,” Osimhen said.

The Super Eagles striker also made it clear that criticism and outside opinions would not distract him from his goals. He maintained that his experience and ability had helped him reach his current level and that he remained confident in what he could offer on the pitch.

“I come from a place where I’m not afraid, I don’t fear difficulties. No one can tell me how to sprint, how to play, how to score goals. I already do these things, and that’s why I’m one of the world’s best strikers,” he stated.

Osimhen added that he was not interested in allowing negative comments to affect his concentration, saying he had other priorities to focus on.

Galatasaray started strongly, with Yunus Akgün opening the scoring in the second minute. Lille responded through Soriba Diaoune, who scored twice, while Aleksey Batrakov also found the net as the French side fought back to make it 2-2 before the break.

Lucas Torreira restored Galatasaray’s lead in the 52nd minute before Osimhen scored nine minutes later to complete the 4-2 victory.

The result gave Galatasaray their first points of the Champions League campaign after losing their opening two matches. Osimhen’s performance also provided a timely boost as the club continued its efforts to improve its position in the competition.
