Chelsea legends Didier Drogba and John Terry have joined other former Blues players in reacting to a touching birthday tribute sent to ex-owner Roman Abramovich by former club director Marina Granovskaia.
According to a report by The Athletic on Sunday, October 25, 2026, Granovskaia marked Abramovich’s 60th birthday on Saturday with a personal message reflecting on their long relationship and the experiences they shared during his time at Stamford Bridge.
The former Chelsea director used the occasion to celebrate the milestone while recalling that she had known the Russian billionaire for almost 30 years.
She wrote: “Wishing Roman a very happy birthday! A special milestone this year, although I’d rather not mention the number — it would only remind me that we’ve known each other for almost 30 years, which hardly seems possible.
“So many extraordinary memories along the way. Wishing him lots of happiness and many more wonderful moments to come!”
Her message attracted attention from several figures associated with Chelsea’s successful years under Abramovich. Drogba shared the tribute, while Terry, David Luiz and Victor Moses responded with blue heart emojis.
Granovskaia was one of the most influential figures behind the scenes during Abramovich’s ownership. She initially handled transfer and contract negotiations on his behalf in 2010 before becoming a member of Chelsea’s board in 2013. A year later, she was appointed chief executive.
Her involvement coincided with a remarkable period for the London club, which collected several major trophies, including five Premier League titles and two Champions League crowns during Abramovich’s 19-year ownership.
His time at Chelsea came to an end in 2022 after the UK government imposed sanctions on him following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The club was subsequently purchased by a consortium led by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital.
Although Abramovich is no longer involved in Chelsea’s ownership, his achievements remain an important part of the club’s history, particularly among supporters who witnessed the team’s transformation during his reign.
The birthday tribute also came shortly after Chelsea suffered a 2-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday, making it a disappointing weekend for the current team.
Nevertheless, the reactions from Drogba, Terry and their former teammates underline the strong connections that remain among those who were part of Chelsea’s most successful era under Abramovich.
