Chelsea Rejected Manchester United Transfer Approach For ‘Untouchable’ Star

According to a report by Metro on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Chelsea have reportedly rejected Manchester United’s approach for highly rated defender Josh Acheampong, as the Blues remain determined to keep hold of the young talent despite growing interest from several European clubs.

The 20-year-old has emerged as one of Chelsea’s promising defensive prospects after progressing through the club’s academy, which he joined at the age of eight. He made his senior debut in May 2024, shortly after signing his first professional contract, and has continued to develop into an important member of the first-team squad.

Acheampong made 30 appearances across all competitions last season and has featured in six of Chelsea’s opening seven Premier League matches this campaign. His growing involvement reflects the trust placed in him and his ability to contribute in different defensive positions.

According to talkSPORT, Chelsea turned down approaches from several European clubs during the summer, including an enquiry from Manchester United. Although United manager Michael Carrick prioritised strengthening his midfield, he was also keen to improve his defensive options.

However, Chelsea are reportedly unwilling to entertain offers for Acheampong, viewing him as an important part of their long-term plans. The Stamford Bridge club are understood to be preparing an improved contract to secure his future amid continued interest from rival teams.

The defender’s current agreement runs until 2029, but Chelsea are keen to extend his stay to protect their investment and reward his development. The club have already secured new contracts for Cole Palmer and Moisés Caicedo, with Acheampong potentially next in line for an improved deal.

His recent performances have also attracted praise from former England midfielder Danny Murphy, particularly following Chelsea’s 2-0 victory over Everton. Acheampong impressed alongside fellow wing-back Jorrel Hato as the Blues recorded a clean sheet.

Speaking on BBC’s Match of the Day, Murphy highlighted the improvement in Chelsea’s defensive performances.

“The defence is improving. It was a big thing getting a clean sheet,” he said.

Murphy also praised the contributions of both young defenders, adding: “I thought the wing-backs, Acheampong and Hato, were terrific, both of them. There was a composure about them in the second half.”

The former midfielder further acknowledged Chelsea’s improved organisation and ability to manage the closing stages of the match, suggesting that the clean sheet would provide a confidence boost for the team’s defenders and goalkeeper.

Chelsea currently occupy fourth place in the Premier League and are preparing to host London rivals Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Saturday evening.

With Acheampong continuing to earn opportunities and attract attention from other clubs, Chelsea appear determined to secure his long-term future. Manchester United, meanwhile, may have to explore alternative defensive targets if the Blues maintain their reported stance on the young defender.
