According to a report by Daily Mirror on Thursday, November 5, 2026, Tenerife teammates of Jesus de Miguel carried his coffin at an emotional funeral ceremony in Navahermosa, Toledo, as family members, club officials and mourners gathered to pay their final respects to the late footballer.
De Miguel died aged 30 in hospital on Tuesday morning following a collision with FC Andorra goalkeeper Jesus Owono during a Spanish Segunda Division encounter on Monday night.
The Tenerife striker suffered serious head and chest injuries in the incident, which resulted in Owono receiving a red card. A preliminary autopsy report subsequently established that De Miguel died from accidental chest trauma.
The funeral took place on Thursday, with De Miguel's teammates arriving in black suits and ties before carrying his coffin into the ceremony. His girlfriend, Maria, and their one-year-old daughter, Carla, were among those mourning the loss, alongside relatives, friends, club employees and other members of the football community.
Manuel Hernandez, De Miguel's agent and a spokesperson for his family, delivered a statement expressing gratitude to everyone who had offered support following the tragedy. The family thanked his teammates, friends, supporters and football clubs for their messages, telephone calls and other gestures of sympathy during the difficult period.
They also acknowledged the widespread affection shown towards the Tenerife forward, saying the love he received and the impact he made on people's lives would remain important memories.
However, the family requested privacy to allow them to mourn without further intrusion, explaining that they needed peace and quiet while coming to terms with their loss.
De Miguel's death has also deeply affected those who knew him personally. His friend Fernando Roman revealed that they had been discussing plans for a family holiday to Disney before the tragedy occurred. Roman sent his condolences to the striker's family, particularly his girlfriend and young daughter, while expressing disbelief at what had happened.
Meanwhile, Owono has also been struggling emotionally following the fatal collision. The Andorra goalkeeper deactivated his social media accounts after receiving abusive messages in the aftermath of the incident.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the 25-year-old expressed deep sadness over De Miguel's death and extended his thoughts to the striker's family and everyone close to him.
Owono also acknowledged that there would be issues to address following the incident but maintained that his immediate thoughts remained with the late footballer and his grieving loved ones.
