Olympic Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, has reportedly identified two promising Liverpool central defenders as potential additions to his squad ahead of the upcoming U23 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
According to a report by The Daily Post on Sunday, October 25, 2026, citing Score Nigeria, Liverpool academy prospects Wellity Lucky and Noah Adekoya have attracted the attention of the Malian tactician, making them possible candidates for a call-up to Nigeria’s U23 team.
Adekoya and Fulham forward Chibuzo Nwoko have both previously indicated their willingness to represent Nigeria if approached by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
While Nwoko has already made his debut for Nigeria in a recent international friendly against Russia, Adekoya is yet to earn his first official cap for the country.
Adekoya joined Liverpool from Burnley in January 2026 and has scored once in four appearances for the Anfield club’s Premier League 2 side.
Meanwhile, Wellity Lucky, who was born in Zaragoza, Spain, is eligible to represent Nigeria through his parents. The defender can also play for Spain and England, having spent more than five years living in England.
Lucky has represented England at U15 and U16 levels and has also received an invitation to train with Spain’s U17 squad.
The highly rated defender is considered one of Liverpool’s promising young talents, with the potential to establish himself in the club’s senior team.
He has already had a taste of senior football, coming on as a substitute during Liverpool’s Carabao Cup encounter against Crystal Palace in October 2025.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian Olympic Eagles are scheduled to take on the Democratic Republic of Congo later in November 2026 as preparations continue for their upcoming international commitments.
