How Group B Table Looks Like Ahead of Nigeria vs North Korea Match

According to a report by ESPN on Friday October 23, 2026, Nigeria's Flamingos are preparing for a crucial encounter against North Korea in their final Group B match at the ongoing FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Morocco, with qualification for the Round of 16 still at stake.

The Flamingos enter the decisive fixture with three points from their opening two matches, having recorded one victory and one defeat. Their qualification hopes were revived following an impressive 2-0 victory over Puerto Rico after suffering a disappointing 2-1 defeat against Poland in their opening encounter.

North Korea currently occupy the first position in Group B with six points from two matches. The defending champions have enjoyed an outstanding start to the competition, scoring 12 goals and conceding just once.

Their impressive performances include a convincing 6-0 victory over Puerto Rico and a 6-1 triumph against Poland. These results have given the Asian champions a remarkable goal difference of positive eleven, making them the strongest team in the group heading into the final round of matches.

Poland occupy second position with three points from two matches. Despite having a goal difference of minus four, the European side remain ahead of Nigeria under the head-to-head ranking because they defeated the Flamingos 2-1 in their opening match.

Nigeria are currently third with three points, having scored three goals and conceded twice. Their positive goal difference of one gives them an advantage over Poland in overall goal difference, although the head-to-head result currently favours the Polish team.

Puerto Rico remain at the bottom of Group B without a point after losing their opening two matches. They have conceded eight goals without scoring, leaving them with a goal difference of minus eight.

The Group B standings ahead of the final matches are therefore North Korea in first position with six points and a goal difference of positive eleven, Poland in second with three points and a goal difference of minus four, Nigeria in third with three points and a goal difference of positive one, while Puerto Rico occupy fourth position with zero points and a goal difference of minus eight.

Nigeria's final encounter against North Korea will be particularly important because the Flamingos still have an opportunity to advance to the knockout stage.

A victory would increase Nigeria's points tally to six and significantly strengthen their chances of securing automatic qualification. However, if Poland also defeat Puerto Rico, three teams could finish with six points, making the applicable tie-breaking rules important in determining the final standings.

A draw would take Nigeria to four points and keep their qualification hopes alive. Depending on Poland's result, the Flamingos could finish second or third, with the possibility of advancing as one of the four best third-placed teams.

However, defeat against North Korea would leave Nigeria with three points and force them to depend on other results to determine whether they can progress.

Meanwhile, Poland will face Puerto Rico in the other Group B encounter, with both matches scheduled to take place on Friday.

The Flamingos will be hoping to produce their strongest performance of the tournament against the defending champions, knowing that their chances of progressing could depend on the outcome.

Nigeria's encounter against North Korea is scheduled to kick off at 4 pm Nigerian time at the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Morocco.

With the group stage approaching its conclusion, the Flamingos must deliver a determined performance to keep their hopes of reaching the Round of 16 alive.
