According to a report by Barca Universal on Thursday October 15, 2026, Barcelona could encounter a significant financial obstacle in their pursuit of Pedro Porro, with Tottenham Hotspur reportedly demanding approximately £75 million to consider selling the Spanish defender next summer.
According to reports in Spain, Barcelona have identified Porro as a potential defensive reinforcement for 2027. However, Tottenham are determined to protect their investment in the 27-year-old right-back.
The reported asking price, equivalent to approximately €90 million, could make Porro the most expensive right-back in football history if Barcelona agree to pay Tottenham’s valuation.
Such a substantial fee could determine whether the Catalan giants proceed with their interest or redirect their attention towards more affordable alternatives during the upcoming transfer window.
Tottenham’s valuation would comfortably exceed the existing transfer record for a right-back, established when Paris Saint-Germain paid Inter Milan approximately €68 million for Achraf Hakimi in 2021.
Porro’s contract situation also strengthens Tottenham’s negotiating position. The defender recently signed a new five-year agreement, keeping him at the London club until 2031 and reducing pressure to sell.
Although his reported market value stands around €45 million, Tottenham are demanding considerably more and have shown little willingness to negotiate a cheaper departure.
Barcelona are not alone in monitoring the Spanish international, as Real Madrid have also reportedly expressed interest. Competition between Spain’s biggest clubs could complicate any potential negotiations.
However, both clubs must consider whether Tottenham’s financial demands represent reasonable value, particularly given the substantial investment required to secure Porro’s services.
A possible return to La Liga could appeal to the defender, especially if Tottenham struggle to meet his ambitions. His decision may depend partly on the club’s sporting progress and future plans.
Porro reportedly committed his future to Tottenham expecting the club to build a competitive team. Continued disappointment could eventually influence his long-term plans and encourage consideration of opportunities elsewhere.
Meanwhile, Barcelona are reportedly exploring alternative options, with Sporting CP defender Ivan Fresneda among the players being monitored as the club evaluates its defensive recruitment priorities.
Porro’s attacking qualities could suit Barcelona’s style of play, but spending close to €90 million on a right-back would represent a significant financial gamble.
Unless Tottenham reduce their valuation or Barcelona commit substantial resources, the asking price remains the biggest obstacle to completing a potential transfer next summer.
