Barcelona set their sights on €65m-rated Aston Villa star but face competition from Bayern Munich

According to a report by Barca Universal on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Barcelona are keeping a close eye on Aston Villa midfielder Johan Manzambi ahead of a possible transfer next summer, although they could face stiff competition from German giants Bayern Munich.

Barcelona sporting director Deco is reportedly exploring options to strengthen the club's midfield, with the 21-year-old Switzerland international emerging as a potential target following his impressive performances this season.

Manzambi has attracted interest from several major European clubs after making an excellent start to the campaign. The midfielder has reportedly scored three goals and provided three assists in six appearances, highlighting his growing influence and potential.

English journalist Graeme Bailey, as quoted by MARCA, revealed that scouts from several top European sides have been impressed by the youngster's performances, with some considering him a potential future superstar.

However, Barcelona are not the only club interested in securing his services. Bayern Munich have also been monitoring Manzambi's progress, having followed his development since his time at Freiburg.

Aston Villa's reported €60 million investment in the midfielder could complicate negotiations, especially if the Premier League club are reluctant to sell him shortly after bringing him to the team. Transfermarkt currently values the player at €65 million, although this valuation does not necessarily reflect the amount Villa would demand to sanction his departure.

Barcelona's financial difficulties could present another obstacle in their pursuit of the Switzerland international. Any attempt to sign him would depend on the club's available transfer budget and whether they can generate funds through potential departures from their current squad.

A move during the January transfer window appears unlikely, as Manzambi is reportedly eager to continue developing under Aston Villa manager Unai Emery. The midfielder is said to be comfortable at his current club, making a transfer next summer a more realistic possibility.

Barcelona will therefore need to assess their financial position and competition from Bayern Munich before deciding whether to pursue the talented midfielder when the next summer transfer window opens.
