Manchester United have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Barcelona defender Alejandro Balde ahead of the January transfer window, with the Spanish club seemingly becoming increasingly open to his departure.
According to a report by FootballTransfers on Sunday, November 1, 2026, Balde's struggles for regular playing time under Barcelona manager Hansi Flick have strengthened United's chances of signing the left-back.
United are desperate to strengthen their defence after extending their winless run to nine matches with Saturday's 2-0 defeat against Chelsea. The result left Michael Carrick's side 17th in the Premier League, outside the relegation zone only on goal difference.
Lisandro Martinez's dismissal against Chelsea has further exposed United's defensive problems, while injuries to Luke Shaw and Patrick Dorgu have increased the need for reinforcements at left-back.
Balde has emerged as one of the players under consideration, particularly because of his difficult situation at Barcelona.
The 22-year-old has managed just 101 minutes of La Liga football this season, raising questions about his long-term future at the Spanish champions.
Barcelona's 6-1 victory over Alaves on Saturday provided another indication of his reduced standing in Flick's plans.
Despite several defensive absences, the German manager opted to use 20-year-old midfielder Brian Farinas at right-back rather than hand Balde his first league start of the campaign.
Although Balde eventually came on for the final 28 minutes, reports in Spain suggest he could consider leaving Barcelona in January amid growing concerns about his relationship with Flick.
The Barcelona manager has also acknowledged the defender's difficulties, suggesting that confidence has become an issue.
"I think he may currently be lacking the confidence he needs to perform at his best," Flick said.
"He also needs to have more belief in our style of play, because we always look to attack and press high, and the full-backs play a very important role in these situations."
He added that Balde must regain his confidence to return to his best level.
