According to a report by BBC Sports on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the Women's Super League table has witnessed important changes following Sunday's matches, with Chelsea strengthening their position at the top after recording an emphatic 6-0 victory over Charlton Athletic.
Manchester City also secured an important away victory against London City Lionesses, while Arsenal dropped valuable points after being held to a 1-1 draw by Aston Villa.
Chelsea delivered one of the most impressive performances of the matchday by thrashing Charlton Athletic 6-0. The Blues scored four goals within the opening 19 minutes before adding two more to complete a convincing victory. The result took Chelsea to 22 points from eight matches, keeping them unbeaten in the league.
Manchester City also maintained their strong start to the campaign with a 2-1 victory over London City Lionesses. Khadija Shaw opened the scoring before Lauren Hemp netted the winning goal after the hosts had equalised through Jana Fernandez. City now have 22 points, level with Chelsea, but sit second because of an inferior goal difference.
Arsenal, meanwhile, suffered another setback in their pursuit of the league leaders after playing out a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa. Chasity Grant gave Villa the lead before Alessia Russo rescued a point for the Gunners with a late equaliser in the 85th minute.
The result leaves Arsenal behind the leading teams as the competition for the WSL title continues.
The other results also influenced the standings. Tottenham Hotspur moved into fourth place after beating Birmingham City 4-1, while Brighton defeated Crystal Palace 2-1. West Ham United also enjoyed a convincing 4-1 victory over Liverpool.
Chelsea occupy first position because they have a superior goal difference of +23 compared to Manchester City's +12. Both clubs have accumulated 22 points from eight matches and remain unbeaten this season.
Manchester United occupy fifth position with 12 points, while Arsenal are seventh with 10 points. Despite collecting a point against Aston Villa, the Gunners remain behind their major title rivals.
At the bottom of the standings, Charlton Athletic continue to struggle after suffering another heavy defeat. They remain in 14th position without a single point after eight matches.
With the season still having several matches to go, the battle for the WSL title, European qualification and survival promises to become increasingly competitive.
