According to a report by Daily Post on Thursday November 5, 2026, Andorra defender Lautaro Spatz has defended his team-mate Jesús Owono following the tragic death of Tenerife striker Jesús de Miguel after a collision between the two players during a Spanish second-division match.
Spatz expressed his condolences to the family, friends and loved ones of De Miguel while insisting that Owono never intended to hurt the Tenerife forward.
The tragic incident happened late during Monday's meeting between Tenerife and Andorra when Owono rushed off his goal line to clear the ball.
However, the goalkeeper collided with De Miguel, leaving the striker with serious head and chest injuries.
Owono was subsequently shown a red card following the incident.
Tenerife confirmed on Tuesday morning that De Miguel had died from the injuries he sustained during the collision, sending shockwaves through Spanish football and the wider football community.
Spatz, who was involved in helping carry De Miguel off the pitch on a stretcher, later took to Instagram to pay tribute to the deceased striker and offer support to his goalkeeper.
The Andorra defender acknowledged the pain surrounding the incident and sent a heartfelt message to De Miguel's loved ones.
He also spoke about Owono, explaining that the goalkeeper was deeply affected by what happened and would never deliberately harm another footballer.
Spatz wrote: "There are moments when football stops making sense. First of all, I would like to express my most sincere condolences and send all my love to the family, friends and loved ones of Jesus.
"I would also like to say a few words about my team-mate, goalkeeper and friend, who has been deeply affected by what happened.
"Those of us who know him know what kind of person he is, how much he is suffering at this moment, and that he would never intentionally hurt anyone."
Spatz's comments highlight the emotional impact of the tragedy on the Andorra players, particularly Owono, who was directly involved in the collision.
The goalkeeper now finds himself at the centre of a deeply distressing incident that has resulted in the death of an opponent.
Although Owono was sent off following the collision, Spatz's message was focused on defending his team-mate's character and making it clear that he did not believe the goalkeeper intended to cause harm.
