According to Mirror Football, Andorra goalkeeper Jesús Owono was left distraught after Tenerife forward Jesús de Miguel died following a collision between the players during a Spanish second-division match.
De Miguel, 30, was taken to hospital after the incident and treated by medical staff. His condition reportedly worsened after he suffered a cardiac arrest on the pitch. Tenerife confirmed his death on the morning of Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
The club shared the news in a statement, offering condolences to De Miguel’s family, friends, teammates and supporters.
Spanish newspaper AS reported that Owono was devastated and broke down in tears in the dressing room after the match. He was also said to have cried and prayed, remaining visibly shaken on the journey back to Andorra.
According to the report, Owono had planned to contact De Miguel and his family to apologise and offer support before making a public statement. De Miguel’s death changed those plans. Owono has reportedly since deleted his Instagram account after receiving abusive messages.
The collision was described as accidental, and Owono was not believed to have intended to hurt his opponent. Footage reportedly showed him turning to check on De Miguel while other players moved away. People close to the goalkeeper defended his character, telling AS: “He is a caring, very kind person. He has no malice.”
Tenerife announced De Miguel’s death in a statement expressing the club’s grief. It said there were no words to ease the pain of his family and loved ones and asked supporters to respect their privacy.
Andorra also offered its condolences to De Miguel’s family, teammates, friends and Tenerife.
De Miguel joined Tenerife from Castellón in the summer of 2025. He made six appearances for the club this season, all as a substitute. His death has shocked Spanish football, while Owono is reportedly struggling to process what happened.
