According to a report by the Evening Standard on Friday, October 23, 2026, Bayern Munich manager Vincent Kompany has been hospitalised after collapsing while watching the club’s reserve team train, prompting the Bundesliga champions to confirm that he will remain under medical care for further examinations.
The Belgian coach was observing a training session involving Bayern Munich II when the incident occurred. The club subsequently issued a statement confirming that Kompany had received medical attention and would undergo thorough examinations in hospital.
Bayern also announced that members of Kompany’s coaching staff would take responsibility for training sessions and match operations while he receives medical care. The club did not disclose further details about the cause of his collapse.
The incident comes just two days after Kompany returned to the touchline for Bayern’s UEFA Champions League meeting with Arsenal at the Allianz Arena on Wednesday. The match ended in a 2-2 draw, with both teams sharing the points after an entertaining contest.
Kompany had reportedly been unwell in the build-up to the European fixture, raising doubts about whether he would be fit enough to oversee his team from the technical area.
His assistant, Aaron Danks, had temporarily taken charge of first-team duties during the manager’s absence before Kompany returned for the encounter against Arsenal.
However, Friday’s incident has raised fresh concerns about the 40-year-old’s health, with Bayern confirming that he requires further medical assessment.
In its statement, the German club explained that Kompany had collapsed while watching the reserve team’s training session and had subsequently been taken for medical treatment. The club also confirmed that he would remain in hospital while doctors carry out the necessary examinations.
Bayern have not provided a specific timetable for his return to work, leaving uncertainty over whether the manager will be available for the club’s next fixture.
The reigning German champions are scheduled to face Freiburg in the Bundesliga on Sunday. With Kompany receiving medical attention, his coaching staff are expected to oversee preparations and manage the team’s immediate responsibilities.
The club’s priority will be to establish the cause of the collapse and allow the manager to receive the necessary care before making decisions about his return.
