According to a report by BBC Sports on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Serhou Guirassy scored in both halves as Borussia Dortmund secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Sabah in Azerbaijan, returning to winning ways in the Champions League after their disappointing defeat to Bodo/Glimt.
Dortmund entered the encounter seeking a response after losing 1-0 to the Norwegian side the previous week. Guirassy delivered the decisive performance, scoring twice to help the German club claim all three points in a competitive contest.
The visitors took the lead in the 10th minute when Guirassy reacted quickly to a rebound after Sabah goalkeeper Stas Pokatilov spilled a shot, allowing the striker to finish from close range. Sabah, however, responded positively and gradually grew into the match. The Azerbaijani side had gained confidence after defeating Slavia Prague the previous week to secure their first-ever Champions League victory.
They began to threaten Dortmund through quick transitions and counter-attacks, putting the visitors’ defence under increasing pressure as the first half progressed. Their persistence paid off in the 39th minute when defender Aden McCarthy headed home from a free-kick delivered from the right wing to restore parity.
Sabah continued to press forward before the interval and appeared to be gaining momentum. Joy-Lance Mickels also found the net, but his effort was ruled out for offside, denying the hosts the opportunity to take the lead. The half-time whistle came at an unfortunate moment for Sabah, who had begun to trouble Dortmund with their attacking intensity.
Dortmund returned for the second half with greater composure and gradually regained control of the encounter. Their improvement was rewarded when Guirassy struck again, meeting an excellent cross from Joey Veerman with a controlled volley that beat Pokatilov and restored the visitors’ advantage.
The goal completed Guirassy’s brace and ultimately proved decisive in securing Dortmund’s second-half turnaround. The match became increasingly open during the closing stages, with both sides creating opportunities as Sabah searched for another equaliser and Dortmund attempted to extend their lead.
Guirassy and Fabio Silva each missed one-on-one opportunities that could have given Dortmund a more comfortable advantage. Sabah also had chances to rescue a point, but substitute Orphe Mbina blazed an effort over the crossbar, while Veljko Simic failed to make proper contact with another promising opportunity.
