Paris Saint-Germain have confirmed that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery after suffering a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) during their 4-2 Champions League victory over Barcelona.
According to a report by BBC Sport on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, the Georgia international sustained the injury during Tuesday night's encounter at the Parc des Princes.
Kvaratskhelia was forced off early in the second half following a challenge involving Barcelona's Xavi Espar. The 25-year-old immediately grabbed his right knee after going to ground, prompting PSG's medical team to provide extensive treatment.
The forward was unable to put weight on his right leg as he left the pitch, raising concerns about the seriousness of the injury.
PSG subsequently confirmed the diagnosis in an official statement released on Wednesday morning.
"Having suffered a rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee during yesterday's match against FC Barcelona, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia will undergo surgery in the coming days."
The injury represents a significant setback for PSG, who secured an important victory against Barcelona in the Champions League league phase but now face the prospect of being without one of their key attacking players for an extended period.
ACL injuries typically require lengthy rehabilitation, although Kvaratskhelia's recovery timeline will depend on the outcome of his surgery and subsequent progress.
The Georgian winger was not the only PSG player to suffer an injury during the contest, with Ousmane Dembele and captain Marquinhos also forced off.
PSG confirmed that Dembele had sustained a left thigh injury and would remain under treatment for the next few weeks.
"Following a left thigh injury, Ousmane Dembele will remain under treatment for the next few weeks," the club stated.
Marquinhos suffered a right thigh injury, with the French champions providing a similar update on the Brazilian defender.
"Following a right thigh injury, Marquinhos will remain under treatment for the next few weeks."
The three injuries leave PSG monitoring the fitness of several important players following their victory over Barcelona.
While the result strengthened their position in the Champions League campaign, Kvaratskhelia's confirmed ACL rupture is a major concern for the French club as they prepare for their upcoming fixtures.
