Barcelona Manager to Repeat PSG Defence Against Real Madrid in El Clasico – report

According to a report by Barca Universal on Sunday, October 25, 2026, Barcelona manager Hansi Flick is reportedly planning to retain the same defensive lineup that faced Paris Saint-Germain when his team takes on Real Madrid in the highly anticipated El Clasico.

According to journalist Alfredo Martinez, Xavi Espart is expected to start at right-back, while Pau Cubarsi and Gerard Martin are likely to form the central defensive partnership. Joao Cancelo is also expected to occupy the left-back position as Barcelona prepare for the important encounter.

The reported decision follows Barcelona’s disappointing 4-2 defeat to PSG at the Parc des Princes, which marked their first loss of the season. Flick will be hoping his players respond positively against their biggest rivals, especially after their defensive weaknesses were exposed during the European encounter.

Barcelona’s injury problems have complicated the manager’s preparations. Jules Kounde is expected to miss the Clasico after failing to recover from the ankle injury he sustained against Real Betis. Eric Garcia and Andreas Christensen are also unavailable because of injury concerns, leaving Flick with limited defensive alternatives.

As a result, the Barcelona coach appears ready to maintain the back four that started against the French champions. Espart could receive another opportunity following his encouraging performance in Paris, where the young defender scored Barcelona’s opening goal despite the team’s eventual defeat.

Meanwhile, Cubarsi and Martin are expected to continue their partnership in central defence. Martin has reportedly recovered from the knock that previously raised concerns about his availability. Cancelo remains the leading candidate to start at left-back.

However, Barcelona must significantly improve their defensive performance after conceding four goals against PSG. The upcoming Clasico provides Flick’s team with an opportunity to recover from their European disappointment and rebuild confidence.

Espart will face a difficult challenge against Madrid’s dangerous wide attackers, while Cancelo must balance his attacking contributions with his defensive responsibilities. Cubarsi and Martin will also need to maintain concentration, communicate effectively and avoid costly mistakes throughout the match.

Despite the injury setbacks, Flick will expect his available defenders to deliver a stronger performance against Real Madrid. Retaining the same defensive lineup could provide continuity, but Barcelona must demonstrate better organisation and discipline if they hope to secure a positive result and satisfy their supporters.
