Mikel Arteta has admitted that Arsenal's victory over Liverpool at Anfield was particularly satisfying, with the Spaniard praising his players for overcoming the psychological and tactical challenges associated with playing at the famous stadium.
According to a report by Football London on Sunday, November 1, 2026, the Arsenal manager reflected on his team's 1-0 victory, which ended their wait for a Premier League win at Anfield dating back to September 2012.
Kai Havertz scored the decisive goal in the 16th minute after being set up by Declan Rice, allowing Arsenal to secure three valuable points against Liverpool.
The result was especially significant for Arteta, who had never previously won a Premier League match at Anfield as Arsenal manager.
Speaking after the final whistle, he explained that the achievement was something the club had targeted for a long time.
"Just loving the mission. And the mission was something that we didn't accomplish in 14 years," Arteta said.
He acknowledged that Arsenal had previously struggled at Anfield for several reasons, including psychological difficulties and mistakes during important moments.
The Spaniard also praised Liverpool's attacking threat, explaining that his players needed to remain disciplined throughout the contest.
Arteta said: "And we're going to have to navigate through periods that we're going to have to suffer because they are extremely good at doing that and creating those vertical attacks, those chaos moments for almost nothing."
Arsenal's defensive organisation was particularly impressive, with Liverpool failing to register a shot on target for the first time in Premier League history at Anfield.
Arteta admitted that the statistic was remarkable, although he insisted that the match felt more dangerous from the touchline because Liverpool came close to creating opportunities.
He credited the commitment of every Arsenal player for preventing the home side from finding a breakthrough.
The manager also praised Liverpool and acknowledged the quality of their performance under their coaching staff.
Arsenal's victory moved them two points clear of Manchester City at the Premier League summit.
For Arteta, the result represents an important milestone in his tenure and provides his players with further confidence as they pursue another league title.
