According to a report by BBC Sport on Saturday, October 17, 2026, Liverpool staged a remarkable second-half comeback to defeat Brentford 2-1 in their Premier League clash, overcoming an early setback to secure three valuable points away from home.
The visitors endured a challenging opening period as Brentford applied pressure and created several promising scoring opportunities. Igor Thiago nearly gave the hosts the lead in the 28th minute after receiving a pass from Dango Ouattara, but his attempt narrowly missed the target. Liverpool also suffered injury concerns, with Dominik Szoboszlai and Victor Munoz forced to leave the pitch during the first half.
Brentford eventually took the lead in the 44th minute through Keane Lewis-Potter. Thiago delivered an accurate cross into the penalty area, allowing Lewis-Potter to connect with a powerful header from close range and beat Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker.
Liverpool were subsequently denied a potential equaliser before the interval. Referee John Brooks initially awarded the visitors a penalty after Ouattara committed a foul inside the box. However, following a VAR review, the official overturned his original decision, leaving Liverpool frustrated.
Brentford's difficulties increased during first-half stoppage time when Yegor Yarmolyuk received a straight red card after another VAR assessment. The dismissal reduced the hosts to ten players and gave Liverpool a numerical advantage heading into the second half.
Liverpool took advantage of the situation after the restart and restored parity in the 62nd minute. Florian Wirtz supplied the pass for Munoz, who produced an impressive strike from the edge of the penalty area to bring the score to 1-1.
The Merseyside club continued pushing forward and completed the turnaround eight minutes later. Bradley Barcola directed a cross into a dangerous position, enabling Alexander Isak to react quickly and fire the ball into the net, putting Liverpool ahead for the first time.
Brentford attempted to respond but struggled to create clear chances against Liverpool's defence. Their hopes of salvaging a point suffered another blow in the 90+2nd minute when Vitaly Janelt received a second yellow card, leaving the hosts with just nine players.
Liverpool threatened to extend their advantage late in the contest, with Barcola striking the crossbar. Nevertheless, the visitors maintained their composure until the final whistle, completing an impressive 2-1 victory after overcoming first-half adversity.
