Barcelona sporting director Deco is reportedly set to monitor Aston Villa midfielder Johan Manzambi closely during Tuesday’s Champions League encounter, with the Swiss international emerging as a potential transfer target for the Catalan club.
According to a report by Barca Universal on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, Manzambi has attracted considerable attention from Barcelona’s recruitment department following his impressive performances. However, signing the 21-year-old could prove expensive, meaning the Spanish giants would need to make a significant financial commitment.
The midfielder has enjoyed an excellent start to the campaign, recording three goals and four assists in eight appearances. His recent form has been particularly impressive, with reports indicating that he has averaged a goal every 70 minutes.
Deco will have an opportunity to assess his qualities at close range when Aston Villa visit the Spotify Camp Nou for their Champions League meeting with Barcelona. The club are continuing to evaluate potential additions as they plan for future transfer windows.
Manzambi’s growing reputation has attracted interest from several European clubs, particularly following his breakthrough campaign at Freiburg in Germany, where he established himself as one of the continent’s exciting young midfield talents.
The Swiss international made a notable contribution during that period, registering seven goals and nine assists. His performances also earned him UEFA’s Europa League Revelation of the Season award for the 2025-26 campaign.
He further demonstrated his quality on the international stage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he helped Switzerland record three goals and an assist.
His consistent displays in the Premier League have now caught Barcelona’s attention, making Tuesday’s Champions League fixture an important opportunity for Deco to evaluate him in person.
Aston Villa signed Manzambi from Freiburg in 2026 for an initial fee of approximately €60 million, with additional payments potentially increasing the overall cost of the deal.
Given the size of that investment and the midfielder’s long-term contract, Villa are unlikely to consider letting him leave easily. His importance to the team has also grown, particularly after contributing seven goals and assists in just eight appearances this season.
Barcelona’s admiration is therefore understandable, but any attempt to secure his services could be complicated by Villa’s strong negotiating position. If the Catalan club decide to make a formal approach, Manzambi’s impressive form could further strengthen the Premier League side’s demands.
With the 21-year-old continuing to establish himself as an influential figure at Aston Villa, Barcelona may have to commit substantial financial resources to stand a realistic chance of signing him.
