NGA 1-0 MEX: Five Flamingos Players Who Impressed In The First Half Of The Match

According to a report by Flashscore on Thursday, October 29, 2026, Nigeria's Flamingos secured a 1-0 half-time advantage over Mexico in their Round of 16 encounter at the 2026 FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup in Morocco, with Oluebube Umejiaku leading the way alongside four other impressive performers.

The Nigerian youngsters entered the knockout fixture with confidence following their impressive 3-1 victory over defending champions North Korea in their final group-stage match. Head coach Hakeem Busari maintained the winning starting lineup as his team looked to secure a place in the quarter-finals.

Oluebube Umejiaku was undoubtedly one of Nigeria's most influential players after finding the back of the net in the 40th minute. Her well-timed contribution gave the Flamingos an important advantage just before the interval. The forward had also scored against Poland and North Korea during the group stage, further demonstrating her importance to Nigeria's attacking efforts.

Tosin Rafiu also deserves recognition for her contribution in midfield. The youngster retained her starting position after assisting Umejiaku's goal against North Korea. Her previous experience with the Falconets at the FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in Poland has also provided valuable international exposure.

Mary Dunstan was another important figure in Nigeria's midfield. She previously demonstrated her creative ability by providing the assist for Oluwakemi Adegbuyi's opening goal against North Korea. Her contribution remains important as the Flamingos seek to maintain their advantage.

Goalkeeper Jane Ijirigho also played an important role in Nigeria's efforts to protect their lead. With Mexico searching for an equaliser, her concentration and ability to organise the defence could prove decisive during the remaining minutes.

Rodiat Yusuf completes the list of five players to watch. The defender retained her position in the starting lineup and remains an important part of Nigeria's defensive structure. Her responsibility will be to help prevent Mexico from creating clear scoring opportunities.

With the Flamingos heading into the second half with a narrow advantage, maintaining their discipline and concentration will be essential as they pursue qualification for the quarter-finals.
