Chelsea believe they are leading the race for Alex Scott but Liverpool may try and beat them to the signature of the England international, GIVEMESPORT understands.

Scott is currently subject of interest from a number of top clubs after wowing for Bournemouth and making his debut for England as a result.

A move away from the Vitality Stadium does appear that it will happen at some point in the future, with the player likely to feature heavily in the headlines once the transfer window reopens at the turn of the year.

Chelsea are very keen and have already started talking to Bournemouth again about their player, with the belief in west London that they are at the front of the queue for the youngster.

However, Liverpool are also keen on a move that would see the player reunited with Andoni Iraola following their time together on the south coast.

According to GMS senior football correspondent Ben Jacobs, the Reds would prefer that the player sees out the season at Bournemouth before moving to Merseyside next summer.

While that maybe is an appealing scenario for Bournemouth as they look to keep hold of their superstar for as long as possible, Chelsea may have other ideas as they look to bring in a new midfielder following Enzo Fernandez's exit and the failed move for Lamine Camara in the summer.

Described as "the complete package" by England boss Thomas Tuchel, Bournemouth value Scott at £100million and they will be looking to get to as close to that fee as possible.

Alex Scott transfer latest

Jacobs has revealed all the latest when it comes to Scott's future and the possibility of a transfer to either Chelsea or Liverpool.

In his latest newsletter, he explained: "And what I can tell you is that Chelsea feel they are leading this race. Chelsea have already started some talks again with Bournemouth and with the player side, and Chelsea have the most urgency to add a midfielder because Enzo Fernandez left for Manchester City on deadline day for £125m, and Chelsea didn't get Lamine Camara from Monaco, so Chelsea are going to push for Alex Scott in the winter market.

"Liverpool could move as well. My information is that Liverpool would prefer if they go down the Scott route to get the player to agree to see out the season with Bournemouth and then move in the summer, and that's a very appealing scenario for Bournemouth as well, but money may talk and Chelsea may have other ideas.

"And my expectation is that Chelsea want to move quite quickly here once the window opens to see if they can lock in a deal, and these talks and negotiations are therefore likely to happen in the buildup to the window opening.

"But there's a really key point here, and there's another transfer to think about that may inform how things play out, were Scott to leave for Chelsea or another club in the January window, and that is the exit of Antoine Semenyo to Manchester City, because the agreement in the end was to get the deal done early, but Bournemouth were able to persuade the player and City to allow him to play through the congested festive period and go right at the end of the window. It wouldn't at all surprise me making some calls on this if that's Bournemouth's perspective."
