Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez absent as EIGHT players miss Man Utd training

Manchester United are back in Champions League action against Como on Wednesday, but their preparations have been disrupted by injuries

Manchester United are facing a major injury headache ahead of Wednesday's Champions League showdown with Como, with Marcus Rashford and Lisandro Martinez among eight players missing from training on Tuesday. Michael Carrick's side will be desperate to return to winning ways in Europe after suffering a 2-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid last week.

However, their preparations have been disrupted by several injury concerns, particularly in defence. Harry Maguire was the only senior centre-back involved in the session at Carrington, with Martinez absent after suffering a thigh problem during United's recent clash with Leeds United.

The Argentine defender was substituted at half-time and remains a doubt for the trip to Italy. Leny Yoro was another notable absentee, although he is already ruled out of Wednesday's encounter following his red card against Atletico.

The French defender is understood to be working on an individual training programme instead. Rashford's availability is also in serious doubt as he continues to struggle with a hip injury that prevented him from taking part in Tuesday's session.

Ayden Heaven, Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw were also missing as United stepped up their preparations. Shaw has not featured since playing the entire 90 minutes of United's 1-1 draw with Tottenham a fortnight ago.

He subsequently picked up an injury and has remained sidelined. Club sources have indicated that late decisions will be made on the aforementioned players before the squad travels to Italy.

While there is still a possibility that some of the absentees could be included, Carrick faces the prospect of heading into the fixture with severely limited defensive options. Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui are the only established options at full-back.

Harry Amass and Jaydan Kamason trained with the first team but are unlikely to feature, while it remains unclear who will partner Maguire at centre-back.

Meanwhile, Benjamin Sesko and Patrick Dorgu remain unavailable as they continue their recoveries from separate injuries. Sesko is currently dealing with a shin problem and there is no clear timeframe for the striker's return.

Dorgu, meanwhile, has been sidelined by a suspected hamstring injury sustained against Wales, which also forced him to withdraw from Denmark's international squad in September.

With several key players struggling for fitness, Carrick faces a difficult selection dilemma as United attempt to bounce back from their European setback.

The Red Devils' only win in the competition so far came in their opening match, when they beat Azerbaijani side Sabah 4-0. Cesc Fabregas' Como have also recorded one victory and one defeat, leaving both teams on three points.
