La Liga president Javier Tebas has taken aim at Real Madrid once again amid regular attacks on Barcelona and referees in La Liga.
Tebas spoke to reporters on Monday about his continued conflict with Los Blancos and accused the club of “stretching the Negreira case like chewing gum,” per AS.
He went on to add: “Real Madrid thinks Negreira is in every referee’s dressing room at every stadium where Real Madrid plays. I remind Real Madrid that we went to the prosecutor’s office before Real Madrid did. The president of Real Madrid was on the board of directors for six months after the Negreira issue came to light, and in a general assembly, he defended the club of his then-friend while it was in the Super League. The day Barça left, it seems everything changed.
“It must be clearly stated that what is happening with the constant attacks against FC Barcelona is unacceptable because this is a drawn-out affair. Barcelona will have to assume its responsibilities if necessary, but right now it cannot be blamed for anything because it is Real Madrid that is asking for the process to be prolonged.”
Tebas’ comments come after a weekend which saw Jose Mourinho’s side embroiled in more controversy.
Real Madrid beat Racing 3-0 in La Liga but the hosts were left furious after Kylian Mbappe was awarded a contentious penalty and there was no VAR review.
Racing boss Jose Alberto said afterwards: “I don’t understand the penalty against Mbappe. In football, there’s contact, but that’s not enough to award such a decisive decision.”
Tebas’ comments also come at a time when relations between the two parties are tense. Los Blancos have already called for Tebas to resign after he recently compared the club’s regular attacks on referees with propaganda techniques of Nazi Germany.
