Wouter Vrancken endured a nightmare afternoon at Celtic Park as his Hearts side were ripped apart in a stunning 7-1 defeat to Martin O’Neill’s Celtic.
Callum Osmand and Benjamin Nygren both scored twice as the Hoops produced a ruthless attacking display, leaving the Edinburgh side with no answer to Celtic’s relentless pressure.
After seeing his team completely overwhelmed, the Hearts boss faced the media to give his assessment of a humiliating afternoon in Glasgow.
Vrancken told BBC Sportsound: “Well, really disappointing, and also the way it happened. At the beginning we made a few individual mistakes, but it came together today, and in the result, like two set plays killed our game at the at the start of the of the game,.
“And then yeah, I think it was all all of their goals. Even when I go back, individual mistakes, and then it’s difficult to win a game, of course.
“In sports you have ups and downs, and periods, and moments, and days. So we have to look forward forward to the next one, because this is the good thing about football. The next one is always coming really fast, and then you have to be ready for those and focus on this one.”
Vrancken will have some job picking up his players after this Celtic Park mauling, but for Martin O’Neill, he now heads into the Celta Vigo game with a welcome headache on who he can pick to try and rescue his Europa League season.
