Harry Kane, Lamine Yamal and Kylian Mbappe are among the leading contenders for the Ballon d’Or award at Monday’s ceremony in London, the first time the event will be held in England.
Kane is in contention after scoring 73 goals in 65 appearances for club and country last season, helping Bayern Munich win the German league and cup titles and leading England to the World Cup semi-finals.
Barcelona star Yamal is also hopeful of winning after finishing second last year, while Mbappe enters the race after topping the scoring charts in La Liga, the Champions League and the World Cup, despite failing to win those titles.
The Ballon d’Or, organised by France Football, is decided by journalists from 100 of FIFA’s top-ranked countries, who vote for their top 10 players from a 30-man shortlist.
In the women’s category, Barcelona’s former captain Alexia Putellas is among the favourites to win her third award following an injury-hit season for reigning champion Aitana Bonmati. Poland striker Ewa Pajor is also a strong contender after scoring 11 goals in Barcelona’s Champions League-winning campaign.
