Liverpool Handed Transfer Opportunity As Chelsea Remain keen On Midfield Sensation

Liverpool and Chelsea are firmly in the running for Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, despite Cherries owner Bill Foley’s insistence that the club has not given up hope of enticing the England international to sign a new contract.

Scott’s future has become one of the most exciting transfer storylines heading into January.

The 23-year-old turned down Bournemouth’s most recent contract offers, while Liverpool and Chelsea remain interested in a player who has become as one of the Premier League’s most highly regarded young midfielders.

Foley refuses to acknowledge defeat against Scott

Speaking to talkSPORT, Foley made it clear that Bournemouth still wants Scott to commit his long-term future to the club.

“At this point, we’re convinced we’re the right place for Alex to be and to stay, and we’ll keep on addressing the contract issues with Alex as we move through this year,” he stated.

“We’d love for Alex to stay here, sign a new contract, and be a part of this squad for the long term.

“We haven’t given up, but sometimes players get stars in their eyes, and they think that Chelsea or Manchester City is the right place to go.”

Chelsea had already tested Bournemouth’s resolve this summer with a £64 million approach, which was rejected. Liverpool did not make a formal bid, but they continue to respect Scott, and his previous friendship with Reds boss Andoni Iraola could help their position.

Liverpool and Chelsea are both interested in Scott

Scott makes special sense for Liverpool because Iraola is already aware of what he has to offer.

He is energetic, technically sound, and adept at moving possession through midfield, qualities that would add another depth to Alexis MacAllister, Ryan Gravenberch, and Dominik Szoboszlai.

Chelsea’s interest is perhaps more aggressive. They have already offered £64 million, demonstrating that Scott is more than just a player being monitored.

The issue for both teams is pricing. Bournemouth is aware that Scott is garnering elite-level attention and will not sell one of its most valuable assets cheaply. However, as his existing deal nears completion, each rejected contract offer gradually diminishes their negotiating strength.

Liverpool may have the managerial link, but Chelsea has already demonstrated the financial commitment.

That makes Scott one of the more intriguing midfield scenarios heading into January, and Bournemouth’s determination to keep him may be tested by an offer too good to turn down.
