Kingdom's delegation prepares for opening ceremony as competitions begin in Senegal
Bahrain will be represented by four athletes across three sports at the fourth Summer Youth Olympic Games, which open on Saturday, October 31, in Dakar, Senegal, and run until November 13.
The kingdom's delegation will compete in fencing, swimming and wrestling, with Ritej Araoud contesting the women's individual foil, Ali Hussain and Sara Alqarooni taking part in swimming, and Ali Mohammed Zaman representing Bahrain in wrestling.
The opening ceremony is scheduled to take place at the 50,000-capacity Stade Abdoulaye Wade in Diamniadio, near Dakar, at 9.30pm Bahrain time on Saturday, featuring cultural performances celebrating Senegalese and African heritage.
Bahrain's chef de mission, Ahmed Abdulghaffar, attended the main delegation heads' meeting organised ahead of the Games, alongside administrative delegation member Hala Al Zayani. Discussions covered final preparations for the competitions and opening ceremony.
Around 2,700 athletes representing 205 National Olympic Committees are expected to participate, with 153 medal events across 35 sports. Competitions will be staged in Dakar, Diamniadio and Saly, supported by approximately 6,000 volunteers.
Bahrain's swimming campaign is scheduled for November 1 to 6, followed by wrestling on November 7 and 8, while fencing takes place from November 8 to 12.
