FARMINGTON — No. 3-seeded Farmington eliminated No. 6 Mayo from the Section 1, Class 4A tournament in the quarterfinals on Wednesday.
The Tigers swept the Spartans 25-23, 25-20, 25-17.
Mickele Mutschelknaus led Mayo with 13 kills. Maci Magee added 17 assists and Brooklyn Everett contributed 13 digs for the Spartans in the loss.
"We end our season against a well-balanced Farmington team," Mayo coach Deb Frederick said. "We took a while to settle in set one as we started out with too many unforced errors. We battled, found some energy, and started to compete. Unfortunately, the slow start continued for us in sets 2 and 3. It is never easy to see the season come to an end. All you can hope is that they gave it their all. As we say goodbye to our seniors, we will build off their leadership, competitiveness and passion for the game."
Mayo ends its season 9-19 overall.
