Michael Carrick’s position as Manchester United head coach is under serious threat after the club suffered two heavy defeats in the space of a week.
The Red Devils were beaten 4-1 by Como in the Champions League before losing 3-0 to Bournemouth in the Premier League.
“Michael Carrick’s future as Manchester United head coach is hanging by a thread,” Sky Sports said at the start of its report on the situation.
According to Sky, Manchester United had already begun considering potential candidates for the head coach’s position before the match against Bournemouth. The club is now expected to accelerate that process.
Sources within Manchester United believe Carrick will be dismissed, although the final decision will be determined by three key figures.
Sporting director Jason Wilcox and chief executive officer Omar Berrada will submit their recommendations to co-owner Jim Ratcliffe, who will be involved in deciding Carrick’s future.
If Carrick leaves, Eddie Howe and Julian Nagelsmann are expected to be the leading candidates to replace him. Both managers are currently without a club.
