Sevilla file complaint with LaLiga over ‘unequal’ TV coverage in 4-1 loss to Real Madrid

Sevilla filed a formal complaint with LaLiga over what it described as “unequal and “inadequate” television coverage of key incidents during Sunday's 4-1 defeat to Real Madrid, the club said Tuesday.

The Spanish club said it was "deeply dissatisfied" with the audiovisual production of the Oct. 18 match at Santiago Bernabeu Stadium.

Sevilla also raised concerns over comments made by LaLiga's head of production and editorial, Sergio Carranza Lezcano, on Spanish radio program El Partidazo de COPE.

Sevilla coach Luis Garcia Plaza criticized an incident involving Real Madrid's Arda Guler and Gerard "Peque" Fernandez while the score was 0-0.

Guler appeared to elbow Peque but was not sent off. He later opened the scoring in the 30th minute.

Garcia Plaza said Sevilla had been "denied the chance to play another game, 11 against 10."

In its complaint, signed by club president Jose Maria del Nido Carrasco, Sevilla questioned how four incidents were broadcast and replayed.

The club cited an alleged foul by Cucurella on Peque that it believed could have resulted in a penalty, saying broadcasters failed to provide adequate replays.

Sevilla also criticized the coverage of Guler's alleged elbow, saying the incident was shown only from distant angles without zoom or magnification.

The club questioned the lack of sufficient television analysis of an alleged foul by Konate on Robbie Ure before Real Madrid's second goal.

By contrast, Sevilla said Real Madrid's penalty following a foul on Kylian Mbappe was shown through multiple replays from different angles.

Sevilla demands footage, investigation

Sevilla rejected criteria it attributed to LaLiga production officials, including reliance on player protests, the referee's initial decision and broadcasters' subjective judgment.

The club also questioned considerations related to live coverage and the video assistant referee system.

It called on LaLiga to publish the protocols governing match broadcasts and clarify the extent of editorial discretion.

Sevilla alleged that three disputed incidents were deliberately omitted from the official match highlights, despite footage later being broadcast by Movistar Plus+ and DAZN.

The club requested detailed documentation covering the production plan, camera positions, blind spots and personnel responsible for broadcast decisions.

It also demanded the immediate release of complete original footage of the four incidents.

Sevilla called for the preservation of technical records and independent camera recordings in case of potential legal action.

The club also sought access to LaLiga's audiovisual production guidelines and called for an investigation and corrective measures to ensure equitable treatment of all teams.

Sevilla said it also disagreed with the criteria presented by the Technical Committee of Referees during a meeting Tuesday concerning the controversial incidents.

The club said the meeting involved a respectful exchange but that the two sides maintained clearly divergent views over the decisions.
