Fulham 1-0 Hull City (Premier League Match Report)

Hull City’s winless run in the English Premier League stretched to five matches following a 1-0 defeat to Fulham at Craven Cottage. Alex Iwobi scored the decisive goal in the 33rd minute to hand manager Alvaro Arbeloa’s side their first victory of the league campaign, lifting the London club to five points while leaving Hull stranded on nine points.

Iwobi Breaks the Deadlock at Craven Cottage

Fulham established early pressure in the 7th matchweek fixture, controlling the tempo in the opposition half. After missing early chances through Oscar Bobb and Joshua King—whose 16th-minute shot flashed past the right post—the hosts found the breakthrough just past the half-hour mark. Sander Berge created the opening outside the penalty area, allowing Iwobi to strike a low effort past Hull City goalkeeper Konstantinos Tzolakis into the right corner for a 1-0 lead.

The hosts maintained their territorial advantage into the interval, with Calvin Bassey heading wide from a corner shortly before the whistle.

Tzolakis Prevents a Heavier Margin After the Break

Fulham continued to create openings in the second half, with Tzolakis forced into multiple saves to keep Hull within reach. The Greek goalkeeper denied King in the 54th minute and stopped Iwobi six minutes later after the forward broke behind the defensive line. Fulham also struck the woodwork in the 75th minute when Gonzalo Garcia headed an Iwobi cross against the crossbar.

Hull sought an equalizer through long-range set-pieces from Mohamed Belloumi. In stoppage time, Tzolakis pushed away a curling effort from Tom Cairney before Fulham defender Ryan Sessegnon received a straight red card in the 94th minute for a foul on Robinio Vaz.

Standings Implications and Managerial Pressure

The result leaves Hull City under Sergej Jakirovic with a five-match winless streak in the Premier League, compounding two defeats in their last three outings to keep them on nine points. Conversely, the victory relieves immediate pressure on Arbeloa, whose Fulham side had collected only two points from their opening six fixtures before securing their first three points of the season.
