Jamie Carragher has risked the wrath of fans by deciding against watching Liverpool's match with Villarreal in the Champions League, for what he claims will be the first and last time he chooses to view another game instead.

It comes as the Reds look to maintain a perfect record in the European competition this season, having won their opening two matches against Atletico Madrid and LASK.

That start has come alongside a Premier League campaign that has been relatively positive, though with the acknowledgment that Andoni Iraola's side isn't yet playing to its full potential or capability.

With the clear balance to be struck between fielding a team capable of winning and managing the fitness of key players, the manager has made changes for the clash between Liverpool and Villarreal.

There were six changes from the win over Brentford, with the likes of Bradley Barcola, Alexander Isak, and Florian Wirtz dropped to the bench to be rested.

While that rotation is in place for a Liverpool side that will want all three points, another huge Champions League match is underway at the same time, with PSG hosting Barcelona.

With such a tantalizing fixture on the cards, onlookers may be torn over which game to watch. While the Reds faithful are almost all likely to pick the tie at Anfield, that isn't the case for Carragher.

Speaking on CBS Sports, he admitted, "I have been excited for this game since we came off air last week. Paris Saint-Germain vs. Barcelona. This is going to be the first time in my life... something is going to happen tonight that will never happen again in my life.

"I'm going to watch a game of football when Liverpool are on, and I'm not gonna watch Liverpool. I'm watching Paris Saint-Germain vs. Barcelona tonight, and I don't think that will happen again in my life. They're just the two best teams in the world right now."

That's a claim that risks the wrath of Liverpool fans, who will be keen to show their support for the side no matter what other matches are ongoing in the background.

It remains to be seen whether that faith will be repaid, with the home fans certainly hopeful that a win and a performance to match those hopes will follow.

The match presents an opportunity for some stars to shine, with the likes of Lewis Koumas, Trey Nyoni, and Rio Ngumoha given another chance to showcase their qualities.

If they can hit the heights, it could end up being a match even more exciting than Barcelona's game against PSG.
