PSG v Barcelona: European champions face their latest Champions League test

Paris Saint-Germain host Barcelona at the Parc des Princes on Tuesday, 20 October 2026, in a meeting between the top two sides in the Champions League league phase.

Both clubs have won their opening two European matches this season. PSG defeated Slovan Bratislava and Manchester City, while Hansi Flick’s Barcelona beat Galatasaray and Feyenoord.

The reigning European champions have scored 10 goals, the most in the competition, while Barcelona are joint second with nine, alongside Aston Villa.

Luis Enrique’s side made a powerful statement at Manchester City last week, scoring three times in the opening 30 minutes to become the first visiting team to score at least three first-half goals at the Etihad in a Champions League match.

They went on to win 6-2, despite Erling Haaland scoring twice and Maghnes Akliouche adding a goal for City after half-time. PSG followed that performance with a 3-1 comeback victory at Strasbourg.

After failing to win any of their first three Ligue 1 matches this season, PSG have now won six consecutive games in all competitions, scoring 19 goals. However, they have kept only one clean sheet in 10 matches and have conceded in each of their past four games.

Barcelona have shown similar defensive weaknesses, recording just one clean sheet in their last seven matches. Their attacking form has been outstanding, though, with five goals against Feyenoord and a 4-1 comeback win at Galatasaray.

Flick’s team then beat Real Betis 5-2 on Saturday to make it 11 wins from 11 matches in all competitions. Barcelona have scored in every one of those victories, registering 48 goals in total, and became the first team since Real Madrid in 1968 to win their opening nine La Liga matches of a season.

PSG have won the past two meetings between the sides, including a 2-1 victory at Camp Nou in the 2025-26 league phase. Barcelona’s most recent win in the fixture was a 3-2 away success in the 2024 quarter-finals, but PSG overturned that tie with a 4-1 victory six days later.

Team news

PSG’s Senny Mayulu and Alessandro Longoni missed the win at Strasbourg with leg bruises. Mayulu has since returned to full training.

Enrique rested several key players at the weekend, including Willian Pacho, Vitinha, Nuno Mendes, Fabian Ruiz, Achraf Hakimi, Ousmane Dembele and Desire Doue. All are expected to start, as is captain Marquinhos, who was left out of the squad to manage his workload.

Barcelona remain without Andreas Christensen and Roony Bardghji. Jules Kounde, Eric Garcia and Gerard Martin were injured against Real Betis. Kounde and Martin have ankle bruises, while Garcia requires further tests for a suspected thigh problem. Gabriel Jesus was also seen limping.

Raphinha, who has scored 14 goals, returned from a muscle problem on Saturday and could join Anthony Gordon in attack.

Probable PSG XI: Safonov; Hakimi, Marquinhos, Pacho, Mendes; Ruiz, Vitinha, Neves; Doue, Dembele, Kvaratskhelia.

Probable Barcelona XI: J. Garcia; Kounde, Cubarsi, G. Martin, Cancelo; Pedri, Rodri; Yamal, Lopez, Gordon; Raphinha.

Europa’s two most prolific attacks should produce another high-scoring contest, but PSG are tipped to edge a third successive victory over Barcelona and end their former manager’s perfect start.
