Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain are closely monitoring FC Barcelona midfielder Fermín López ahead of the upcoming transfer windows, according to reports in Spanish and French media. The Spain international has emerged as a central figure in Hansi Flick’s side, recording five goals and four assists in 12 appearances across all competitions.
Manchester United officials recently gathered information regarding López during a scouting trip to Madrid connected to Champions League fixtures, as reported by Radio Marca broadcaster Matteo Morito. Those discussions also encompassed Atlético Madrid midfielder Pablo Barrios. However, Morito emphasized that neither inquiry has advanced to actual negotiations with Barcelona. Simultaneously, journalist Ekrem Konur reported that Paris Saint-Germain is preparing a formal bid to test Barcelona’s resolve, driven by head coach Luis Enrique’s admiration for the player’s versatility in advanced midfield roles. The Spanish attacking midfielder figures among the players monitored by the capital club, which is evaluating the possibility of formulating an offer. At Paris, Luis Enrique knows Spanish football well and the qualities of players trained at FC Barcelona. Capable of operating in the midfield and quickly projecting himself toward the opponent’s penalty area, the Barcelonian possesses a profile that could attract the attention of the Parisian staff. PSG would not be alone in this file, as Chelsea and Arsenal are also following the player.

Transfermarkt currently values López at €110 million, reflecting his growing stature after an impressive start to the campaign. The player missed the summer World Cup due to a fifth metatarsal fracture in his right foot that required surgery, leaving him eager to make an impact upon his return. Foot Mercato noted that Barcelona considers the Olympic champion a core piece of its squad, alongside interest from Premier League sides Arsenal and Chelsea. Yet, the Catalan club faces financial pressures that could force decisions on several high earners. Club insiders suggest Barcelona will listen to offers for select established starters between January and the summer transfer window, with defender Jules Koundé also frequently mentioned among potential departures.
Both López and Atlético Madrid’s Barrios are tied to long-term agreements with their respective Liga clubs. Barrios is under contract until 2030, while López’s current deal runs through 2031, giving both clubs strong leverage in any potential talks. While neither Spanish club actively seeks a sale, neither has completely shut the door on future business as financial fair play parameters and wage bill reductions remain pressing concerns at Camp Nou. Barcelona must weigh the sporting importance of retaining key academy products against the necessity of generating revenue through major player sales.
