Josh Hokit has continued his unorthodox method of fight promotion by releasing a ‘diss track’ on his rivals.
Hokit will face Ciryl Gane in two weeks’ time at UFC 334 for the heavyweight title. Remarkably, he is less than a year on from his promotional debut, and has only been fighting professionally for three years since making the switch from the NFL.
Cain Velasquez is widely regarded as one of the most complete heavyweight fighters of all time.
While he has scored some big wins over the likes of Derrick Lewis and Curtis Blaydes, what has really made Hokit stand out is his wild trash talk. Now, he is going even further by taking aim at Gane as well as a host of other major names in the promotion.
Despite initially making fans cringe with his ‘Incredible Hok’ persona, Josh Hokit has now become a lovable heel for viewers who have been crying out for more pre-fight promotion. Tonight he took that a step further by mocking countless fighters and MMA figures in a new ‘diss track’.
His main target was Ciryl Gane, his opponent for UFC 334, but he also took jabs at Jon Jones, Tom Aspinall and even non-divisional enemies like Ilia Topuria and social media star Nina Drama. He highlighted his undefeated record, and frequently mocked his last opponent Derrick Lewis.
Hokit infamously had a run-in with Topuria during the pre-fight press conference for UFC Freedom 250 in Newark. He also has no love lost with former champion Jones, who trains his rival Gable Steveson at their shared gym of Jackson Wink in Albuquerque.
His mockery of Gane included multiple mentions of his fouls, which have marred the Frenchman’s last few performances. He poked Tom Aspinall in the eyes, forcing a No Contest and rendering the Brit unable to compete indefinitely, before hitting Alex Pereira in the back of the head during their fight.
Hokit jokingly released a video this week where he had a coach pepper spray him to condition his eyes for pokes from Gane.
