Pallacanestro Varese head coach Ioannis Kastritis is under no immediate threat of dismissal, as club leadership firmly rejects speculation linking former Baskonia coach Paolo Galbiati to the bench, La Prealpina reported.

Club Leadership Stands Behind Kastritis

The management of Pallacanestro Varese has moved quickly to silence rumors surrounding the coaching staff following a demanding start to the campaign. According to reporting from local outlet La Prealpina, club officials stated that the position of the Greek head coach is absolutely not in discussion, as noted by Sportando. Speculation suggesting an imminent transition to Paolo Galbiati was dismissed as unfounded, particularly given that Galbiati remains under contract with his former club in Spain pending a buyout agreement. And the rumors about a potential change involving Paolo Galbiati are termed illations, also by virtue of the fact that the Brianza-born coach was dismissed last night from Baskonia, but remains under contract until he reaches a buyout agreement.

The Openjobmetis Varese start to the season continues to raise questions, especially following the home loss against Peristeri in the Basketball Champions League, with the red-and-white team showing difficulties both on a technical and physical level, with results so far below expectations. The club chose to recruit players tailored specifically to the coach’s tactical system, cementing his central role in the sporting project. Management insists that comprehensive evaluations of the coaching staff will not take place until the roster returns to full health.

Roster Shortages and Locker Room Stability

Injuries have heavily impacted Varese through the opening weeks of the season, preventing the team from completing a single full-squad training session. Key contributors, including Amedeo Della Valle and William McDowell-White, have missed significant time, forcing the coaching staff to navigate a depleted rotation. The club views the ongoing physical setbacks as a primary mitigating factor for the team’s slow start in domestic and European competition.

Internal relations remain stable despite the challenging results on the court. La Prealpina confirmed that the locker room shows no signs of fracture, with players maintaining a high level of commitment during daily training sessions and showing a willingness to execute the tactical demands set by the technical staff.

Upcoming Schedule and Evaluative Checkpoints

The upcoming stretch of fixtures will serve as a critical test for the squad as they seek to reverse their early-season trajectory. Varese faces a demanding sequence of matches against Trento, BC Roma, and Bamberg. Without the immediate return of key personnel like Della Valle and McDowell-White, the club faces a steep climb to regain ground in the domestic standings and European playoff race before the opening month concludes.
