Bayern Munich head coach Vincent Kompany was released from the hospital Wednesday after he was initially admitted for collapsing during a training session on Friday.

His release comes after the club said in an official statement on Friday that Kompany collapsed during the second string session, received medical attention and will "undergoing thorough examinations" in the hospital for the time being.

Max Eberl, director of sport for Bayern Munich, told German broadcaster ARD on Wednesday (h/t ESPN), "Given the circumstances, he's doing well. He ‌was discharged from the hospital [Wednesday]. That is the biggest and best news for all of ‌us.

"It's a meningeal irritation that caused this incident on Friday. He will now rest and take medication, and I am certain that he will very soon be back on the touchline, operating at 100%."

Eberl previously issued a statement in the club's Friday release:

"Vincent Kompany's health is our top priority. We at FC Bayern will do everything we can to ensure he makes a speedy recovery. Vinnie is receiving all the necessary medical care and support, and all the time he needs. His coaching team, in whom we have complete confidence, will take over his duties. All of us at FC Bayern wish Vinnie a speedy recovery."

Other members of the coaching staff will handle Kompany's duties while he is out.

Kompany has been Bayern Munich's head coach since May 2024. He has a 91-19-12 record with the club. Bayern's next match is Saturday against Borussia Dortmund.
