Kispest-Honvéd became the first top-flight team eliminated from the MOL Magyar Cup this season, falling 3–1 to second-tier side Gyirmót FC Győr on October 27, 2026. In front of 1,425 spectators at the Alcufer Stadion, the previous season’s semifinalist exited before even reaching the round of 16.
Novák Csanád beat his marker to the ball and slotted it past goalkeeper Gergely Dúzs to give the second-tier team an early lead. Despite holding more possession afterward, Kispest struggled to create clear openings. Gyirmót goalkeeper Kecskés stopped Alex Szabó’s close-range attempt in the 30th minute to preserve the home advantage.
Kispest found a temporary lifeline just before halftime in the 41st minute when Pauljevics laid the ball off for Dominik Csontos, who struck a powerful shot from 20 meters into the top right corner. The equalizer briefly brought the top-division visitors level, though Gyirmót continued to threaten immediately after the restart through persistent efforts from Jevhenyij Kicsun.
The home side regained control in the 56th minute when Kicsun cut inside from the left flank and drove an unbalancing shot from 11 meters into the bottom right corner. As Kispest pushed forward in search of another equalizer, defensive errors mounted. In the 78th minute, Zsombor Berecz put the match out of reach by curling a magnificent 21-meter free-kick past Dúzs into the left side of the net, sealing the 3–1 final score line.
Traveling Kispest supporters directed heavy criticism at the team during the closing minutes. Fans chanted the name of former manager Tamás Feczkó—who secured the club’s promotion before being dismissed in May—while also shouting harsh disapproval regarding the team’s performance. Players Szilveszter Hangya and Ákos Baki remained on the pitch long after the final whistle to speak at length with the frustrated fan base.
Gyirmót head coach Ádám Weitner praised his squad’s physical conditioning and tactical discipline, noting that he urged his players to attack with greater bravery during the halftime break. On the opposing side, Kispest manager Maurizio Jakobacci lamented unforced errors in the defensive third and stated that the team beat themselves through nervousness following the second conceded goal, emphasizing that the club must wake up and improve rapidly ahead of upcoming fixtures.
Another second-division club secured its place in the next round as FC Ajka earned a 2–0 victory away against third-tier side Kaposvári Rákóczi. After the hosts hit the crossbar through Hampuk, Zoltán Csizmadia broke the deadlock just before halftime with a close-range header. Goalkeeper Márton Gyurján preserved the advantage with several key saves after the interval before Dávid Artner secured the result with a goal in the 72nd minute, rendering a subsequent crossbar hit by Kaposvár’s Gágyor purely academic.
