Manchester United XI vs Roma: Confirmed team news, predicted lineup and injury latest for Champions League
Michael Carrick sack latest as Manchester United manager expects to remain in charge

Manchester United will not be able to welcome back Patrick Dorgu when they take on Roma this evening.

There had been a hope that the Dane could slot back in to solve the Red Devils’ left-back problems after the versatile winger returned to team training on Monday.

Michael Carrick, the under-fire head coach, confirmed to the media that while the former Lecce man had made a comeback, he would not be involved in the Champions League tie.

"It was his first day with the group, great to have him back, but he won't be involved tomorrow,” Carrick said. “We'll see how he progresses for the week [ahead]."

As such, it means that United are once again hamstrung in that position, with Luke Shaw also sidelined with a muscle problem.

Diogo Dalot and Noussair Mazraoui have deputised from right-back in recent matches, with central defender Leny Yoro coming in as a makeshift right-sided full-back. Ayden Heaven is also an option in that position.

Further forward, the Red Devils are still without Marcus Rashford, who remains sidelined with a niggling hip issue that kept him out of the heavy defeats by Como and Bournemouth, while he was not fit enough to face Chelsea either. He has not since returned to training, and will not feature here.

Benjamin Sesko is a longer-term absentee as the Slovenian continues his recovery from a shin problem that curtailed his debut campaign and stunted his start to this season.

It therefore leaves Carrick relatively short of options for the visit of Roma, but he will have Kobbie Mainoo to call upon in the engine room after the academy graduate returned to training ahead of the trip to Chelsea, and he was introduced as a substitute at Stamford Bridge.

The England international could well come into the starting lineup here, although it remains to be seen who could join him in centre-field.

Summer arrivals Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos and Carlos Baleba have all been rotated in recent weeks as Carrick looks to experiment in a bid to save his job.

In the final third, Matheus Cunha is the likely starter off the left flank, with Bryan Mbeumo leading the line in lieu of Sesko.

Bruno Fernandes made his comeback at Chelsea after his benching against Bournemouth, and he will continue as the No10, with Amad Diallo potentially off the right.

Predicted Man Utd XI (4-2-3-1): Lammens; Yoro, Maguire, Martinez, Dalot; Mainoo, Tielemans; Amad, Fernandes, Cunha, Mbeumo

Injured: Dorgu, Sesko, Shaw, Rashford, Ugarte, Heaton
