Arsenal could beat Tottenham Hotspur to the signing of a prolific young German centre-forward, who the Lilywhites have been tracking since the summer.
Spurs’ interest in Nicolo Tresoldi first came to light during the summer, and Roberto De Zerbi’s side may be regretting not securing the 22-year-old ahead of the start of the season.
The Club Brugge man has made an extremely impressive start to the campaign, having scored nine times already in 13 matches across all competitions.
The Lilywhites have been backed to reignite their interest in Tresoldi in January as they go in search of a reliable goalscorer to replace Richarlison.
However, the 16th-placed Premier League side have now learned that their bitter rivals have also set their sights on the German.
The Sun have now revealed that Arsenal are also eyeing a January swoop for the Brugge star after his impressive start to the season.
With Viktor Gyokeres having fallen out of favour with Mikel Arteta, it is revealed that the Gunners are on the lookout for a new centre-forward, with the German U21 international near the top of their wishlist.
The Premier League champions have been impressed by the performances that Tresoldi has delivered against top-class opposition this term, with four of the striker’s goals coming in the Champions League.
The former Hannover man struck in Brugge’s 3-2 loss to Aston Villa before netting a hat-trick at the San Siro as the Belgian side turned over AC Milan 3-2.
This has led to Arsenal substantiating their interest, thus potentially making Tottenham’s pursuit of the striker a lot harder.
The Sun hand Spurs a further blow by revealing that Arsenal’s hierarchy has a good relationship with Brugge.
Arteta’s men signed Christos Tzolis in a £35m deal from the Belgian club in the summer, and they could use the relationship that they forged during the deal to strike another agreement for Tresoldi in January.
The report adds that Brugge rejected a £30m offer from Roma for the striker in the summer, and his value has now risen to around £42m.
While £42m may be a relative bargain by Premier League standards, Arsenal’s entry into the race for Tresoldi has seemingly really complicated matters for De Zerbi’s side.
