Six years of Barça success at the Ballon d'Or gala
Six years of Barça success at the Ballon d'Or gala

The 70th edition of the Ballon d'Or awards in London on Monday continued six years of success for FC Barcelona. The blaugranes were the club with most awards in 2026, as has been the case every year since 2021.

Record for a year

At the gala in London there were no less than five awards for FC Barcelona. Lamine Yamal and Vicky López took the Young Talent award in the men's and women's category respectively; Cata Coll was named Women's Goalkeeper of the Year with Pere Romeu taking the Women's Coach of the Year award. Finally, Barça Femení were awarded the Women's Team of the Year prize to set a new record for a single edition of the awards.

Bayern Munich took two awards whilst PSG, Athletic Club and the Spanish National Team claimed a prize each as did London City Lionesses and Mexican club Pachuca. Former blaugrana Alexia Putellas also took the women's Ballon d'Or after a stellar season with Barça.

Barça success

In 2025 Barça left the gala with four awards, Aitana Bonmatí taking the women's Ballon d'Or, Lamine and Vicky López winning the Young Talent award as in 2026 and Ewa Pajor won the women's striker award. Next best were Paris Saint-Germain on three awards.

In 2024 Aitana once again won the Ballon d'Or, Lamine the Young Talent award and Barça Femení taking the Team of the Year title, giving Barça three awards, one ahead of Real Madrid.

More prizes

In the 2023, 2022, and 2021 editions, Barça once again topped the lists, tied with Manchester City, Real Madrid, and Paris Saint-Germain, respectively. At all three ceremonies, the Barça nominees won two awards. Aitana in 2023 and Alexia in 2022 and 2021 won the Ballon d'Or; Gavi (2022) and Pedri (2021) were named Young Talent of the Year; and Barça Femení received the award for Best Club of the Year (2023).

It is also worth noting that Lionel Messi won the 2021 Ballon d'Or, his seventh, thanks to his performances with Barça. However, by the time he received the award, he was already a player for Paris Saint-Germain.

Therefore, 2026 saw the trend continue with the blaugranes leading the way at the Gala in London, showing their consistency as one of the top clubs in the world year after year.
