Al Ahly beat Uganda’s Kitara 4-0 on Sunday, sealing a 6-1 aggregate win and a place in the CAF Confederation Cup group stage.
Mohamed Magdy Afsha and Taher Mohamed Taher also scored as Hussein Ammouta’s side followed their 2-1 first-leg victory with a comfortable home win.
El Shahat’s opener was Al Ahly’s 700th goal in African competition, while his second took his own continental tally for the club to 25.
Al Ahly created several chances before finally making a breakthrough. Soufiane Benjdida shot over the goal early on, while Kitara’s goalkeeper denied attempts from Taher, and El Shahat squandered another opportunity in front of goal.
El Shahat eventually opened the scoring after the goalkeeper failed to clear Tawfik Mohamed’s cross. The winger controlled the loose ball outside the penalty area and lifted his finish over the keeper and defenders.
Afsha doubled the lead in the 44th minute. Taher intercepted a misplaced pass and crossed into the box, where Benjdida let the ball run through for Afsha to finish.
El Shahat added his second in the 51st minute, collecting Karim Fouad’s headed pass, beating a defender and scoring from inside the penalty area.
Taher completed the scoring in the 68th minute, heading home substitute Ahmed Eid’s cross from the right.
Al Ahly continued to create openings after the fourth goal, with Benjdida shooting wide as Kitara struggled to contain the hosts. The victory followed Wednesday’s 3-3 Egyptian Premier League draw with El Qanah.
Al Ahly now await the group-stage draw, scheduled for 28 October in Cairo. They return to league action against Modern Sport on 29 October.
