Trabzonspor boss Reis hopes injured Paul Onuachu returns soon

Trabzonspor manager Thomas Reis is hopeful Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu will recover quickly from injury and return to action soon.

Onuachu was hurt during Trabzonspor’s 4-2 victory away to Finnish club KuPS in their opening UEFA Conference League match of the season.

The result gave Trabzonspor their first European win for a long time and extended their winning run to three matches.

Reis addressed the Nigerian forward’s condition after the game, expressing his disappointment at the injury while praising Onuachu’s contribution before he was forced off.

“Onuachu was very unlucky. He's a player who works very well in training. He started the match well and scored a nice goal. It's a very unfortunate injury,” Reis said.

The manager also insisted Trabzonspor would not use injuries as an excuse, saying the situation could provide an opportunity for other players in the squad.

“I hope he'll be back soon. Injuries aren't an excuse for us; we can't make excuses. Injuries are opportunities for other players. I hope it won't last too long and he'll rejoin us soon.”
