Lamine Yamal has finally broken his silence after missing out on the 2026 Ballon d’Or award to Harry Kane.

On Monday night, during a star-studded ceremony at the London Palladium in England, Bayern Munich star Kane was announced as the winner of the 2026 Ballon d’Or.

The 33-year-old England captain beat the likes of Yamal, Kylian Mbappe and Rodri to football’s most prestigious individual award. He also became the first English player to win the trophy since 2001, when Michael Owen took home the prize.

While Kane celebrated, the likes of Yamal and Mbappe were left disappointed, but the Barcelona young star did take home an award, having won the Kopa Trophy, which is handed out to the best young talent of the year; it was his third time in a row winning the accolade.

On Tuesday evening, Yamal finally broke his silence as he took to social media and posted a series of pictures from Monday night’s glamorous event.

The caption from Yamal read:

“IT WILL COME. Good things take time, and I trust the path I’m building. No rush, just excitement and the peace of mind knowing that one day my moment will come."

“Congratulations to the winners. My focus now returns to what truly matters: helping FC Barcelona win again.”

Speaking after winning the Kopa Trophy, Yamal claimed that the award should have gone to Barcelona teammate Pau Cubarsi.

He said: “I would have liked Cubarsi to have won; he deserves it, he has been great for a long time.”

Meanwhile, Yamal's Spain teammate Unai Simon won the Yashin Trophy, with national team boss Luis de la Fuente taking home the award for Men's Coach of the Year.

Lamine Yamal's Father Involved in Altercation at Barcelona Airport

According to Spanish news outlet El Espanyol, Yamal’s father, Mounir Nasraoui, was involved in a violent 'altercation’ at the airport in Barcelona ahead of making the trip to London for the Ballon d’Or awards.

It has been claimed that Nasraoui placed his jacket in a place where it’s not permitted, leading to airport staff asking him to remove it, with the discussion escalating from that moment onwards.

The video posted by El Espanyol claimed that Nasraoui spat in the direction of the waitress’ face; after a bystander attempted to intervene, Nasraoui was alleged to have grabbed a chair and thrown it towards the man. It has been reported that in the end, the local police had to get involved in order to resolve the matter.
