Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) on Tuesday night produced an impressive performance to defeat Barcelona in a thrilling encounter at the Parc des Princes, with Desire Doue, Lamine Yamal and Vitinha among the scorers in an action-packed contest.

Doue, who also impressed in PSG’s victory over Manchester City last week, broke the deadlock in the 38th minute after both teams had squandered several promising opportunities.

Barcelona responded early in the second half through teenage full-back Xavi Espart, who fired a powerful effort into the near post.

However, PSG regained the advantage when defender Lucas Hernandez rose highest to head home from a corner.

Lamine Yamal restored parity for the Catalan side with a brilliant finish at the near post, but Vitinha quickly put PSG back in front with a spectacular volley into the bottom corner less than two minutes later.

Fabian Ruiz then sealed the victory five minutes later, finishing Achraf Hakimi’s low cross at the far post to bring Barcelona’s 11-match unbeaten start to the season to an end.

PSG began the match aggressively, using their high-pressing approach to disrupt Barcelona’s attempts to build from the back and force mistakes in the opening stages.

Just 79 seconds into the game, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia struck the post after Pedri lost possession. Doue and Ousmane Dembele also tested Barcelona goalkeeper Joan Garcia following turnovers high up the pitch.

Barcelona gradually found opportunities to threaten on the counterattack, but Raphinha failed to capitalise on a neat pass from Anthony Gordon, shooting straight at PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov.

Garcia was called into action twice late in the first half to deny former Barcelona teammate Ferran Torres, who had replaced the injured Dembele.

However, he was unable to prevent Doue from opening the scoring. Following an interception of Barcelona’s attempted build-up, Doue advanced towards the edge of the penalty area before unleashing a low shot into the bottom-left corner.

Barcelona nearly equalised before the break, but Safonov denied Fermin Lopez in a one-on-one situation.

Ten minutes after the restart, Espart, 19, brought Barcelona level by bursting into the penalty area and beating Safonov with a powerful strike at the near post.

The visitors appeared increasingly dangerous as they searched for a winning goal.

Torres subsequently struck the post following a swift counterattack, but PSG responded when Hernandez powered a header beyond Garcia from a corner.

Yamal then produced a moment of individual brilliance, turning Warren Zaire-Emery before accelerating into the box and squeezing his finish between Safonov and the post to make it 2-2.

Barcelona’s hopes of completing a comeback were quickly dented as Vitinha controlled a clearance on his chest before firing a stunning volley into the bottom corner to restore PSG’s lead.

Ruiz completed the scoring shortly afterwards, converting Hakimi’s low delivery at the far post to cap a memorable night for the reigning European champions.

The victory takes PSG to nine points, with the French side scheduled to travel to Spain to face Villarreal on Tuesday, November 3, at 20:00 BST. Barcelona remain on six points and will welcome Aston Villa to Camp Nou on the same day and at the same time.
