Manchester City maintained their winning start to the English Premier League (EPL) season with a 3-2 victory over Ipswich Town at the Etihad stadium.

Talisman Erling Haaland scored a brace to push Man City over the edge in the pulsating encounter, as Ipswich made City work hard for all three points.

Phil Foden put Man City in the lead on 19 minutes with a well-placed shot but the lead lasted only two minutes.

Japanese striker Daizen Maeda stroked home from a Marc Guehi error for 1-1, but Haaland restored the lead on 34 minutes. The six-foot striker nodded home a cross to restore City’s lead, and doubled the lead on 69 minutes with a low shot for 3-1.

An Ipswich penalty on 90 minutes was converted by Zian Fleming, but a nail-biting end to the encounter was successfully navigated by Enzo Maresca’s side.

Man City opened a six-point gap at the top of the table ahead of second-placed Arsenal who have played a match less, while Ipswich remain in 10th position.

Chelsea rose to fourth on the EPL log with a 2-1 win at Everton, Pedro Neto scoring twice in the second half to take all three points against their stubborn hosts, and also ended a run of 22 EPL matches without a clean sheet.

Liverpool also rose to fifth place, one point behind Chelsea, thanks to a 2-1 comeback win at 10-men Brentford.

Keane Lewis-Potter’s opener was cancelled by Victor Munoz before Alexander Isak sealed all three points with the winner.

Alex Iwobi also scored his first league goal of the season in Fulham’s 1-0 win over Hull City.

The goal secured a first league win of the season new manager Alvaro Arbeloa, and catapulted the London team from bottom of the league to 15th place with five points.
