Harry Kane is the new Ballon d’Or winner, succeeding Ousmane Dembélé after a 61-goal campaign for Bayern Munich, Transfermarkt reported. The England captain claimed the 2026 award on Monday night at the London Palladium Theatre in England during a ceremony celebrating the 70th anniversary of the prize.
Kane secured the prestigious accolade at age 33 following a prolific season where he found the net 61 times across 51 official appearances for his German club. The forward edged out competition from Barcelona’s Lamine Yamal and Real Madrid’s Kylian Mbappé to lift the first Ballon d’Or trophy of his career.
Beyond the primary men’s award, the evening in London recognized several other major figures in the sport. Unai Simón of Athletic Bilbao took home the Yashin Trophy as the year’s best goalkeeper, while Kane picked up the best forward distinction. Luis de la Fuente, coach of the Spain national team, won the coaching award, and Paris Saint-Germain received the club of the year honor.
Four Portuguese internationals featured in the final 30-man shortlist. Paris Saint-Germain midfielders Vitinha and João Neves finished 14th and 19th respectively, while their club teammate Nuno Mendes placed 23rd. Manchester United midfielder Bruno Fernandes rounded out the group in 27th place. Meanwhile, Brazilian representation saw a difficult showing with Vinicius Júnior (Real Madrid), Gabriel Magalhães (Arsenal), and Marquinhos (PSG) finishing 17th, 21st, and 25th, marking the lowest Brazilian placement in the ceremony in 16 years.
