Things are looking up for Liverpool after they knocked Chelsea out of the Carabao Cup to book their place in the quarter-finals. A tense 6-5 victory on penalties at Anfield moved the Reds a step closer to Wembley and extended their winning run.

The shootout followed a hard-fought 1-1 draw, with Morgan Rogers putting Chelsea ahead from the penalty spot five minutes before half-time. Cody Gakpo responded just three minutes later, also converting from 12 yards to bring Liverpool level.

The result means Andoni Iraola's side have now won five consecutive matches since their 3-0 defeat by Manchester City earlier this month. Virgil van Dijk was quick to highlight the renewed optimism around the club after the game, insisting the "feel good factor" had returned.

Liverpool will now look to build on their momentum as they target a place in the Premier League title race and consider potential opportunities in the transfer market. With confidence growing at Anfield, here are the latest Liverpool headlines.

£80m man told to snub Chelsea for Liverpool

Alex Scott has been urged to reject Chelsea in favour of a move to Liverpool. The Bournemouth midfielder, 23, was the subject of intense interest from several big Premier League clubs over the summer. But the Cherries opted not to sell, despite several bids from Chelsea.

The Blues are expected to reignite their interest in the England international in January, with a potential £80million deal on the cards. But former Liverpool and Chelsea defender Glen Johnson thinks Scott would be better off at Anfield.

"As of today, I'd have to say Liverpool [over Chelsea]," Johnson said when asked which of the two teams Scott should join.

"That's not necessarily due to him getting more game-time or anything like that, but I'm saying it more from the perspective of Liverpool as a club being a lot more stable and they’re going in a better direction.

"I'd choose Liverpool purely for stability, but I'm not sure which club he'd get more game-time at to be honest. You can certainly understand why both clubs are interested in him though."

Liverpool starlet told 'sky is the limit'

Rio Ngumoha has lavished praise on his Liverpool team-mate Trey Nyoni, claiming the "sky is the limit" for the 19-year-old.

Nyoni started in midfield on Wednesday night and produced a man of the match performance against a high-quality Chelsea engine room that featured Moises Caicedo, Romeo Lavia and former Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson. After the game, Ngumoha insisted that was just a taste of Nyoni's talent and demonstrated just how high the youngster's ceiling is.

"Trey is top," Ngumoha said. "You guys haven't even seen him at his very best yet. He definitely has another level to go and he's only 19."

He added: "The sky is the limit for Trey. I'm really happy he's getting the minutes to show himself, but also everyone else, how good he is.”

Iraola was similarly impressed. "I think he has done very well. Really well," said the Liverpool boss. "It's good for the young players especially to have these experiences in cup competitions, where if you lose, you're out.

"We were losing and then drew level. They weren't involved in the penalty shootout, but they experienced those feelings. They played under pressure against a very good team. And Trey finished physically in a good place, so well done to him."
