Orlanod Pirates head into the encounter flying rather high. They have enjoyed a near-flawless start to the 2026/27 Betway Premiership season.

However, coach Ouaddou has cautioned his players against underestimating a Kaizer Chiefs side operating under new management.

“We need to have positive arrogance. We have to accept this position as favourites, as champions,” Ouaddou told the media.

“We must accept it but we’re playing against new management, new players. To be favourite doesn’t mean you will win. There’s new energy,” Ouaddou added..

The Sea Robbers have established themselves as serious title contenders alongside Mamelodi Sundowns, collecting 22 points from eight matches.

Ouaddou’s side have recorded seven victories and one draw, scoring 19 goals while conceding just once. Their impressive defensive record and attacking firepower underline their credentials as they prepare for the derby.

The Buccaneers are also competing in the CAF Champions League group stage. It adds another challenge to their campaign.

KAIZER CHIEFS SEEK DERBY STATEMENT

Meanwhile, Kaizer Chiefs occupy fifth place after eight league matches under coach Fernando Da Cruz.

Amakhosi have collected 14 points from three wins and five draws, remaining unbeaten despite facing criticism from sections of their supporters over their performances.

The Glamour Boys have scored 13 goals and conceded eight, leaving them eight points behind Pirates.

Saturday’s derby offers Da Cruz’s side an opportunity to upset the champions, silence critics and build confidence under the club’s new leadership.

FERNANDO DA CRUZ’S VIEWS

“It’s the most supported game,” the Frenchman told journalists. “Sold out in six hours, one of the best games in Africa. It divides the country. It’s a good moment for South African football.

We have worked well and confident, we know it will be hard against a good team. A big team, I have to credit Abdes for the job. But we are ready for the game,” the former AS FAR and Lille coach concluded.
